Eidem Farm market & open house

AUG. 9 — The Eidem Farm market and open house will take place from 3-7 p.m. at Eidem Homestead, 4345 101st Ave. N., Brooklyn Park. Take in the sights, sounds and scents of a day on the farm as costumed interpreters carry out the tasks of daily living in 1900. Admission is free. Info: 763-493-8333.

Ribbon cutting

AUG. 9 — The Courage Center wheelchair softball field ribbon cutting will be 5:30-6:45 p.m. at Northwoods Park, 7600 107th Ave., Brooklyn Park.

Game Fair

AUG. 10-12 — The Annual Game Fair is a sporting event for the entire family located on 80 beautiful acres of woods and water. Fairgoers can bring their leashed dogs and cased guns or bows to participate in a variety of activities in a magnificent outdoor setting. The Game Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Located at 8404 161st Avenue NW, Anoka. Info: www.gamefair.com.

Faster than the Pastor 5K

AUG. 11 — The Faster than the Pastor 5K is held in conjunction with the annual St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church Harvest Festival. The run takes place Saturday, Aug. 11, beginning at 8:30 a.m. This USATF certified 5K is walker, jogger, runner and stroller friendly. The course is flat and fast and begins and ends at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, located at 9100 93rd Ave. N. in Brooklyn Park. With a twist to the typical 5K, if anyone is faster than the Pastor, their name will be entered in a raffle to win an iPad2.

Dayton council meeting

AUG. 12 — There will be a Dayton City Council meeting at 7 p.m. at Dayton City Hall, located at 12260 South Diamond Lake Road.

Art in the Park

Aug. 13 — Visit Andrews Park to participate in Art in the Park. The Aug. 13 activity is making velvet doodle posters. Art in the Park is a family oriented program held at Andrews Park (either in the old concession building or under the picnic shelter). Event begins at 7 p.m. No pre-registration is required. Each project costs $1.75 and takes about 15-30 minutes to complete. All necessary materials are provided.

Anoka-Hennepin School Board work session

Aug. 13 — The Anoka-Hennepin School Board will hold a work session in the Erling Johnson Room A at the Staff Development Center, 2727 Ferry Street, Anoka.

Champlin council meeting

Aug. 13 — The Champlin City Council will hold its regular business meeting at Champlin City Hall, 11955 Commerce Drive. A work session will be held prior to the council meeting beginning at 5:45 p.m.

Primary election

AUG. 14 — The Primary Election is Aug. 14. Absentee voting begins June 29. Check with your city hall for specific polling locations and for more information on how to absentee vote.

AUG. 15 — Today is Craft Fair Day and Business Expo at the Champlin farmers market. The Champlin farmers market is held Wednesdays July 11 through Oct. 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Ice Forum parking lot, 120th Avenue and Hwy. 169, by Lifetime Fitness.

Dinner & a Movie

AUG. 17 — Dinner and a Movie is back this summer, presented by Broadway Pizza, Champlin-Dayton Athletic Association and the city of Champlin. This free family event will be held Friday, Aug. 17 at Andrews Park beginning at dusk (around 8:30 p.m.). Come early to enjoy pizza from Broadway Pizza and to stake out your spot. Bring a blanket or lawn chair.  Movie title to be determined.

Corn Fest

AUG. 17-19 — Corn Fest 2012 will be held at Church of St. Gerard, 9600 Regent Ave. N. in Brooklyn Park. The festival includes kids’ games, a magician, Bingo, food and beer. Friday, Aug. 17 from 6 to 11 p.m. The band, Orange Whip, will perform from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18 from 4 to 11 p.m. Shalo Lee & Rush City Band will perform 7 to 11 p.m.  Sunday, Aug. 19  hours are noon to 4 p.m. Info: st-gerard.org.

Party in the Park

AUG. 18 — Dayton Party in the Park is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 18. The event, which raises funds for the Dayton Fire Relief Association and the Dayton Lions, will feature kids activities, a softball tournament and two live bands. Bands play from 6:30 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $10 at the door. Located at Central Park, 12260 South Diamond Lake Road, Dayton.

CPHS Class of 2002 reunion

AUG. 18 — Champlin Park High School’s Class of 2002 will hold its 10-year reunion Saturday, Aug. 18 at Medina Entertainment Center, located at 500 Highway 55, Medina. Event is for 21 years and older. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres at 6:30 p.m.; music by Sweet Siren at 8:30 p.m. Cost is $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Info: cphsreunion2002@gmail.com

Tadpole Parade

AUG. 21 — Musical act Tadpole Parade will perform at Andrews Park, in Champlin, Tuesday, Aug. 21 at 11:30 a.m. as part of the city’s “Picnic Performances in the Park” series This is a free event. Bring a blanket and a few snacks while sitting back, relaxing and enjoying the show, whish lasts 30-45 minutes.

MOPS Meetings

2ND TUESDAYS — MOPS meetings will be held the second Tuesday of each month at Solid Rock Free Lutheran beginning Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 9:15 a.m. Meetings will include food, fellowship, childcare and the opportunity to build relationships with other young mothers. Champlin Park Youth Hockey Association

3RD TUESDAYS — CPYHA board meetings are held from 7 to 9 p.m. in the small conference room at the Champlin Ice Forum located at 12165 Ensign Avenue North. The CPYHA provides and promotes youth hockey for the benefit of Champlin, Brooklyn Park and Dayton residents.

Free drop-in yoga classes at the Hindu Temple

TUESDAYS, THURSDAYS & SUNDAYS — All are welcome to attend free Yoga classes at the Hindu Temple in Maple Grove. All ages, all abilities, all faiths are welcome. 1ST THURSDAYS — Grandparents and relatives raising children in the group will discuss legal and financial options, understanding and dealing with emotions about raising children, as well as learning ways to better help the children the first Thursday of the month from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. While grandparents and relatives meet, the children are invited to participate in a free supportive playgroup. CDAA Board Meetings

SECOND TO LAST SUNDAYS — CDAA Board Meetings are held on the second to last Sunday of each month. The public is welcome to attend. Open Skating

ONGOING — Open skating is currently offered at the Champlin Ice Forum Wednesdays from 10 to 11:45 a.m.; Saturdays 6:30 to 8 p.m. and Sundays 1:30 to 3 pm. Student cost is 44. Adult cost is $5. Skate rental is $3. Open skating is provided for recreational skating only. It is important that participants observe the rules of open skating in order to make it an enjoyable experience for every skater. The program is not designed for hockey, figure skating practice or formal skating lessons by an instructor. Long blade skaters are welcome during weekday morning sessions. The Ice Forum is located at 12165 Ensign Ave. in Champlin.

Tribute Trees

ONGOING — The Friends of Parks and Trails of St. Paul and Ramsey County work with the city of Champlin to offer Tribute Trees as living gifts that may be planted in city parks. The recipient receives a card at the time of the order, and a map of the tree location after its planting in spring. The cost is $75 per tree, or $200 for three. McGruff House

ONGOING — The Dayton Police Department works in cooperation with the McGruff House program, which was designed to assist children who are in danger or have a medical emergency while going to and from school. WEEKLY — Are parents worried about their kids because of chaos and pain caused by a spouse’s/significant other’s drinking? Are parents kids acting out, getting into trouble or withdrawn and depressed? Alateen can help the kids and Alanon can help parents. And it’s free.
