8 area figure skaters to compete at State Figure Skating Championships

Eight local figure skaters will be competing at the upcoming State Figure Skating Championships, taking place Aug. 17 to 19 at the Bloomington Ice Gardens. These area members of the local Three Rivers Figure Skating Club practice year round.

Figure Skating competitions happen all year long around the area and state, starting with basic skills competitions up to the Senior Freeskate levels. As skaters pass different tests, they can compete at different levels. This keeps competitions fair and opens up competition opportunities for all levels of skaters. As the skaters learn new jumps, spins, and footwork, they get longer and more difficult and complicated programs to perform.

Skaters from the Three Rivers Figure Skating Club who are competing at this year’s State Figure Skating Championship include:

• Kimberly Bell, Pre‐preliminary, coached by Patti Itzin. Kimberly is an eighth grader at Maple Grove Junior High. She has been skating for four years.

• Sunny Choi, Pre‐preliminary, coached by Mandy Pirich. Sunny is in the third grade at Rush Creek Elementary and has been skating for three and a half years.

• Nicole Hoffman, Preliminary level, coached by Mandy Pirich. Nicole is a seventh grader at Osseo Junior High School. She has been skating for seven years.
