Students will have the opportunity to pick up free school supplies and clothing and receive free hair cuts at “back-to-school” events planned for Aug. 6 at Champlin Park High School (CPHS) and Coon Rapids High School (CRHS) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Supplies and services will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
This is the second year for the back-to-school event at CPHS. It was so popular with families the CRHS site was added. The CPHS event will be held in the school’s cafeteria. The CRHS event will be held on the school’s second floor.
The events are open to all Anoka-Hennepin students in need of back-to-school support. Organizers are finalizing community resource areas for parents and guardians, but are hoping each site will have a mobile dental van and immunizations available as well as information about these services for students who cannot be seen that day. Information about community resources will also be available to families.
Organizers are still seeking licensed barbers and stylists to volunteer their time to provide free haircuts, as well as school supplies and clothing items such as new socks, gloves and hats.
Anyone interested in volunteering or having a resource table at the back-to-school events or donating school supplies can contact Karrie Schaaf, Anoka-Hennepin School District homeless youth and families liaison, at 763-433-4695.
