Each year, more than 3.5 million people in 5,000 communities in the United States, along with additional communities in 20 other countries, gather to take part in this global phenomenon and raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer. Relay for Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.

Champlin Park’s chapter of Relay for Life is no different. As part of their fundraising and awareness campaign, they will be sponsoring the Aug. 1 Champlin Farmers Market and encourage everyone to dress in their signature color — purple.

Relay for Life is an overnight relay-style event where teams of people camp out around a track and take turns walking laps. There are special laps such as the survivors’ lap where cancer survivors take to the track and walk a lap together. There’s also the caregivers lap and the luminaria lap. The event is meant to be uplifting and inspirational. Food, games and activities provide entertainment and fundraising opportunities in a family-friendly environment. This year’s Champlin Park Relay for Life will be held Friday, Aug. 3 at 7 p.m. with closing ceremonies Saturday, Aug. 4 at 6 a.m.

Everyone’s reason to participate in Relay for Life is as unique as their own personal story. At Relay, you can find healing, comfort, and support from others who have faced cancer or who have lost a loved one to the disease. You have a chance to meet people in the community who are equally as passionate about finding an end to cancer in our lifetime.

Stop by the Champlin Farmers Market Aug. 1 to hear about the personal stories of those representing Champlin Park’s Relay for Life, to get  more information on the event, to donate or to simply say hello and show your support.
