Hwy. 55 in Greenfield scheduled to reopen July 27-30 weekend
Motorists will experience delays and a detour as the final closure of Hwy. 55 in the west Twin Cities Metro begins Monday, July 30.
Hwy. 55 will close in the morning between County Road 19 and County Rd. 101 in Corcoran and Medina. The roadway will be closed until early September as crews work on resurfacing, adding turn lanes and making drainage repairs in the area.
A posted detour will direct motorists to use County Rd. 19, County Rd. 50, County Rd. 10 and County Rd. 101 to bypass the closure.
Hwy. 55 between County Road 92 and County Road 19 is scheduled to reopen to traffic Friday morning, July 27, weather permitting. Hwy. 55 will remain open to all traffic throughout the weekend, before the closure to the east begins July 30. This portion of Hwy. 55 has been closed since June 11 for resurfacing, intersection reconstruction and drainage work.
During the final closure access will be maintained to local residences and businesses adjacent to Hwy. 55. Flaggers at each end of the closure area will direct motorists who need to access the closure area, and pilot cars will lead motorists around areas where construction crews are working. Local motorists are reminded to use caution and drive slowly through the area, as elevation drops due to pavement removal may occur throughout the construction zone. Local motorists should also expect delays and use alternate routes if possible.
The Hwy. 55 design-build resurfacing project is located in Hennepin and Wright counties between Ash St. in Rockford and just west of Pinto Dr. in Medina. Work includes resurfacing Hwy. 55 to preserve the lifespan of the roadway and create a smoother ride for motorists, adding left turn lanes at various intersections to enhance safety, repairing curb and gutters and drainage structures, and updating accessibility for pedestrians. The project began in mid-April and is scheduled to be completed by late September.
