Area youths enjoy summer sport camps

It might be summer, but both Osseo and Maple Grove high schools were buzzing with activities the past few weeks.

At Maple Grove, 110 girls grades three to nine participated in the girls’ basketball camp ran by Crimson coach Mark Cook and some of his players. "The camp went great," Cook said.

The numbers were not as high but enthusiasm was over at the Osseo girls’ basketball camp. This was the last camp hosted by outgoing Oriole head coach Joey Waters, who is moving on to coach in college. The campers got plenty of individual attentions from Waters, assistant coach John Rieser and Oriole state tournament stars such as Janay Morton and Phillis Webb.

The week before, about 100 young girls packed the Osseo summer volleyball clinics conducted by Osseo coach Bill Quan and many of his players.
