The Delano Public Library has cracked open its Summer Reading Program and revealed lots of reading opportunities and programming for people of all ages to enjoy between now and Aug. 23.

An Ice Cream Social Tuesday, June 12, marked the kick-off of the annual Summer Reading extravaganza. Youngsters and adults came to the library at 160 Railroad Ave. E. to sign up for the program and chances to earn incentives for reading during the summer. It’s not too late to sign up. Librarian Carole Plocher is inviting people to stop at the library desk and get started.

Plocher and the Delano Friends of the Library have a variegated schedule of summer activities to lure people to the library for fun and perusal of library shelves. A magician and an animal cartoonist already have stopped by. Here are the remaining programs for summer:

Okee Dokee Brothers Tuesday, June 26, from 10:15 to 11 a.m. The brothers will offer an interactive concert with original witty lyrics and off-the-wall humor. The audience will dance, sing and play instruments.

Old-Fashioned Froggy Fun Tuesday, July 3, from 1 to 2 p.m. Tamra Kowalski and friends will celebrate July 4 a day early with things froggy. Come listen to Minnesota frog calls and stories, create Origami frogs, and weather permitting, see a frog-jumping contest outdoors.

Dazzling Dave Yo-Yo Master Tuesday, July 10, from 1 to 2 p.m. Dave will entertain the audience with yo-yo tricks and offer hands-on instruction.

Pizza in the Park Thursday, July 12, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Pizza Ranch will sponsor food and surprise entertainment near the gazebo in Delano Central Park. A face painter will be on hand. Pizza by the slice will be available for a donation, along with a free beverage and icy treat. All proceeds will go to the Delano Friends of the Library, servers for the evening.

Don B Comedy and Magic Show Tuesday, July 17, from 1 to 2 p.m. National unicycle champ Don Bursell will offer an interactive show of juggling, magic, circus and comedy. His goal is to instill a love of reading.

Z Juggling Rosenschnoz Tuesday, July 24, from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Chris Griffith will offer up juggling and physical comedy, as he gives flight to spheres and fire.

Dakota Wild Animals Tuesday, July 31, from 1 to 2 p.m. Here is a chance to have hands-on encounters with reptiles and mammals in a safe environment.

The Bazillions Tuesday, Aug. 7, from 1 to 1:45 p.m. During this family friendly concert, kids can sing, dance and run around.
