Maple Grove Days adds two new tournaments to the lineup of competition this year. Always trying to offer new and different events presents a challenge sometimes but once again the Maple Grove Organization Committee has met that challenge head on with a Spiketacular Sand Volleyball and Pickleball Un-officiated tournaments.
What is Pickleball? It is a fun game combining ping-pong, tennis and badminton and is played with a smaller racquet/paddle and a whiffle ball. This Un-officiated, doubles tournament will have a men’s and women’s category with registration by skill level. Competition takes place at the Maple Grove Community Center Thursday, July 12. Don’t delay in signing up this is the newest craze to hit the competitive line up.
MRPA is offering a Four Summer Spiketacular (4′s and 6′s) One-Day Sand Volleyball Tournament. Those interested can sign up for all four tournaments or just one. Tournaments take place during Fridley 49′er Days, Maple Grove Days (July 15), Shoreview Days or Woodbury Days. There will be 4 or 5 team pools with single-elimination finals. All matches are self-officiated and rally scored. Prizes for the top 2 teams and of course boasting rights of being the Maple Grove Days first Sand Volleyball winners.
And new to the list of fun last year was the Cornhole… Baggo… Bags…Beanbag Toss Tournament, call it what you will. The fun begins Saturday, July 14. Check out the aim; toss the corn bag into the hole. So take the challenge and toss a way into the winner’s bracket. Sign up a team of two to participate in the second annual Cornhole tournament. Each team is guaranteed to compete in a two match tournament. Must be 18 to register and fee is $40 before June 30 or $50 after, so sign up early as space is limited. Not only does the event offer a bit of competition and fun it also has great prizes for the first four places. The winning team will take away the bragging rights as Maple Grove Days Cornhole Champions and $400 prize.
Additional information and registration forms for all events are available at the Maple Grove Community Center or maplegrovedays.org.
