Highway 55 between Hennepin County Road 92/Dogwood Street and Hennepin County Road 19 in Greenfield and Medina will be closed from 9 a.m. Monday, June 11, until late July.
Crews will work on resurfacing, adding turn lanes and drainage repairs in the area. A posted detour will direct motorists to use Hennepin County Road 92/Dogwood Street, Hennepin County Road 50 and Hennepin County Road 19 to bypass the closure.
During the closure access will be maintained to local residences and businesses adjacent to Highway 55. Flaggers at each end of the closure area will direct motorists who need to access the closure area, and pilot cars will lead motorists around areas where construction crews are working.
Local motorists are reminded to use caution and drive slowly through the area, as elevation drops due to pavement removal may occur throughout the construction zone. Local motorists should also expect delays and use alternate routes if possible.
After the work has been completed and this section of Highway 55 reopens, crews will move east and Highway 55 will close between Hennepin County Road 19 and Hennepin County Road 101. Updates will be made in advance of the closure.
The Highway 55 design-build resurfacing project is located in Hennepin and Wright counties between Ash Street in Rockford and just west of Pinto Drive in Medina. Work includes resurfacing Highway 55 to preserve the lifespan of the roadway and create a smoother ride for motorists, adding left turn lanes at various intersections to enhance safety, repairing curb and gutters and drainage structures, and updating accessibility for pedestrians. The project began in mid-April and is scheduled to be completed by late September.
