Baseball season ends for STMA

With losses to Bemidji and St. Cloud Apollo in the Section 8AAA tournament, the Knights 2012 campaign ended.

They finished at 14-9 overall, going 10-2 in the Mississippi 8 play to claim their fourth regular season conference championship. Their other titles came in 2010, 2009 and 2007.

STMA opened the tournament with a home victory over Alexandria.

ALEXANDRIA 2

(May 28) The Knights made the most of three hits in their victory over the cardinals on Monday.

Both teams put runners aboard, though it was STMA that was able to take advantage, pulling out a one-run win at MSW Field.

Alexandria outhit STMA by a margin of 4-3, and also stranded 11 runners on base.

Junior pitcher Jacob Dzubay worked out of three difficult moments for the Knights to earn the win. He allowed two unearned runs on four hits over seven innings.

At the dish, senior outfielder Steven Kiesner led the Knights with two hits. He finished the season leading the team in batting average at .391 with 25 hits in 64 at-bats.

BEMIDIJI 3,

STMA 2

(June 2) The Lumberjacks won in 10 innings over the Knights in St. Cloud on Saturday.

Dzubay went the distance for STMA, but it ended in loss, his second of the season.

Twice the Knights held the lead in the game, but Bemidji answered both times.

A game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the Lumberjacks the victory.

ST. CLOUD APOLLO 6,

(June 2) In game two of the day, this loss ended STMA’s season.

Dzubay did all he could to give STMA a boost, but it wasn’t enough to get past St. Cloud Apollo. He finished with a 7-2 overall record in 10 starts.

At the plate, Dzubay drove in two of the Knights runs with a two-RBI double in the fourth inning. Freshman outfielder Tyler Berg had started the inning with an RBI single.
