Rogers 9 eliminated from playoffs

(May 25) Seeded fifth, Champlin Park’s 3-0 victory over No. 12 Rogers in the opening game of the Section 5AAA tournament played at Wintercrest Park in Coon Rapids, officially ended the Royals’ 2012 season.

From the mound the Rebels’ junior pitcher, Spenser Daniel, threw a six-hit shutout, as he struck out eight and walked one.

On the other side for Rogers, senior Dylan Morris went 5 2/3 solid innings, surrendering three runs (one earned) off five hits, two walks and one hit batter, with two strikeouts. While in relief, sophomore Luke Selken retired the only batter he faced.

At the plate, junior first baseman Ryan Gelle went 2-for-3 to lead the Royals, as senior outfielders Will Terres, Mitch O’Neil and senior Andrew Smith, along with junior infielder Kyle Halseth, each had one hit.

With the loss, Rogers finishes the season 7-13 overall and 4-8 in Mississippi 8 Conference play.
