My name is John Deitering. I am 66 years old and have lived in Rockford Township for 40 years. I am married (45 years) with 2 daughters and 4 grandchildren. I served on the Rockford Township board from 2005 to 2008, at which time I temporarily moved out of the township. I moved back last year and would like to serve on the board again.

I think the present board and the Township employees are doing a great job for Township residents. The roads are well taken care of and expenses are carefully watched. I recognize that especially in the early spring and late fall, gravel roads become difficult, but I’ve observed other townships, and Rockford Township is blessed with the best road crew in Wright County.

If elected, my intention is to help the Rockford Township board stay on its present course of providing good township services with the funds we are given to operate. If voters have specific questions about specific issues, feel free to call me at 763-276-1002.

In addition to being a Supervisor on the Township Board, I am a Director for the Wright County Township Officers Association, serving as Secretary/Treasurer for eighteen years, and currently I am appointed by Governor Dayton to be a member of the Election Integrity Task Force representing Minnesota townships.

As a hands-on town board member, I’ve prepared the township newsletter since 1987. I enjoy setting up and working at our Semi-Annual Clean-Up Days, and coordinate the application of magnesium chloride to control dust on our gravel roads. I was the Building Manager for a number of years for the Township Hall.

My belief is that you need to be an active participant to stay current with all the issues and education is essential; I have attended presentations on Disaster Preparedness, Social Media, and numerous sessions sponsored by the Minnesota Association of Townships.

I will continue to visit with Federal and State Legislators to talk about issues such as unfunded mandates, road sign replacement, Voter ID, annexation, transportation issues, and other items that impact us. I attended the Township National Conference in Washington, DC in 2011, visiting the offices of Amy Klobuchar, Al Franken, John Kline and Keith Ellison; advocating on the township’s behalf for benefits for volunteer firefighters, more broadband width for the internet, money for transportation, no new unfunded mandates and other issues. Annually, I coordinate a lobby day at the State Capitol in St. Paul for township officers.

In closing, I’ve been on the Rockford Township Board for twenty-four years. If re-elected I will continue to use my experience and knowledge to keep our township a great place to live for our residents. I enjoy being a Supervisor and want to continue.
