City of Champlin and Anoka County close boat launches
On Friday, June 29, the flow rates at the Coon Rapids Dam were reported at 35,200 cfs. As a result, Anoka County and the City of Champlin have both temporarily closed their boat launches on the river. The City of Champlin has also issued a request that boaters operate under a no-wake condition in consideration of high water levels and potential negative impacts on shorelines.
Additionally, due to recent rains and elevated flow rates, safety buoys have again been washed away and will not be replaced until flow rates fall below 20,000 cfs. The USGS predicts that the river flow rates are dropping slowly and are not expected to reach this level until possibly this week (week of July 9). However, predictions change every day and are weather dependent.
