STMA 4th-grade golfer qualifies for U.S. World Tournament

Fieldstone Elementary School fourth-grader Christian Labrador has qualified for the U.S. Kids World Golf Tournament in Pinehurst, N.C., Aug 2-4.

Christian, son of Ricky and Sharon Labrador of Albertville, qualified in the Southern II tournament at Sunset Hills Country Club. He played well enough to qualify for the US kids World (9 yr old division) last year.

"They have around 1,200 kids from ages 6-12," Ricky Labrador said. "All we wanted is him having this wonderful experience of playing with the world’s best 9-year-olds."

The three-day event will be followed by the seventh annual World Cup, featuring top 12-year-olds in a match-play team event on Pinehurst No. 2. The World Cup will be Sunday, Aug. 5.

The U.S. Kids Golf World Championship is the world’s largest and most prestigious event for kids ages 12 and under. The 2011 field featured more than 1,200 participants from 47 states and 39 countries.
