Now is the time to start preparing and get in shape. Get ready to enjoy Maple Grove Days, July 12-15.
Maple Grove Days brings back a long time favorite event, the Rice Lake Classic Run. This the perfect way to start the morning a fun run with the family, neighbors, friends, high school alumni or co-workers.
Sixteen years of tradition, this 3.7-mile run around Rice Lake offers beautiful terrain and a scenic route in natural settings as it winds through neighborhoods around the lake, through natural forest area and open prairie grasses. The trail is an all-paved surface. The race begins at Freedom Field located behind Evangelical Free Church at 8585 Rice Lake Road on July 14.
Registration forms are available in advance at the Maple Grove Community Center, Life Time Fitness, or at maplegrovedays.org. The mail-in registration deadline is July 6. Pre-registration fee is $8 and race day registration is $12. This race is limited to the first 350 registered runners.
While this is a fun run, it is timed and medals will be awarded to the top three women and men runners in each of the following divisions: Age 14 and under; Age 15-18, 19-29, Age 30-39, Age 40-49, Age 50-59, and Age 60 and over. The run is open to all, the individual runner or a group, which Maple Grove Organization Committee encourages teams to wear coordinating shirts, bandanas and run with team spirit. Participants should arrive for registration between 7 and 7:30 a.m. The race begins at 8 a.m. All participants will receive an official Rice Lake Classic Run T-shirt. Participants are also welcome to a water stop on the course of the race and free refreshments are available after the race.
For the younger racer, who is yet able to take on the challenge of a 3.7-mile run, there is the Kids Fun Run. This is the perfect opportunity to open up the joy of running to youngsters. This race is also held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. around North Arbor Lake (across from the Maple Grove Government Center). This route is only one mile. So head over after the Rice Lake Classic Run and share some fun with the kids.
Looking for some Friday night fun…put those bowling skills to the test and have some fun at Maple Grove Days Alley Jamz Bowling. This event is hosted by Sundance Golf & Bowl, 15240 113th Avenue N. The Alley Jamz Bowling is open to everyone who enjoys bowling no matter what their skill level. There will be a DJ to keep the party rolling, disco lights and prizes. The fee is $10 and includes 3 hours of bowling, shoe rental and a prize fund.
