Maple Grove Legion opens season 2-0 Kivi, Schwager combine for no hitter

Maple Grove Legion Post 172 opened up the 2012 season with two shutouts. On Thursday evening Erik Kivi and Jake Schwager combined to throw a no-hitter in a 2-0 win over Champlin Park. It WAs the first no-hitter for MG since June of the 2008 season.

Kivi threw five innings striking out three and Schwager threw the final two innings facing the minimum six batters. A strong defense led by the outfield play of Brady Jacobs, Joe Franta, and Roman Collins helped preserve the no-hitter. Offensively The Crimson picked up six hits with Jaxxon Anderson coming through with a pinch hit RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.

Earlier in the week Post 172 defeated Fridley 6-0. Mitch Bauer and Mike Bartels combined on the two hit shutout. Offensively Collins collected two hits with two RBI’s while Jacobs and Alex Naasz added RBI hits. The game ended on strike from catcher Nate Gilman to Shay Torgerson on an attempted steal of third base.

Maple Grove continues play next week with six games scheduled including a Wednesday Night match-up with Osseo at Crimson Stadium.
