DAYTON POLICE

The following is a summary of select incidents occurring during the month of May 2012.

On May 3, officers were called to Crestwood Drive for a report of a missing child. The child had left the care of the babysitter to go to school. The school contacted the Dayton Police Department and notified the officer on duty of the child’s absence from school. The baby sitter stated the child had left for the bus stop and had not returned, so they assumed the child went to school. Officers from area agencies assisted in performing a search and the child was later found unharmed. The child stated they had missed the bus and did not know where to go.

On May 7, officers were called to a domestic occurring in a vehicle on Interstate 94. A woman was assaulted and left on the side of the road. The suspect fled the scene. This case is under investigation and charges are pending.

On May 21, officers were called to Crestwood Drive for 2 males fighting with baseball bats. An adult male was arrested for second-degree assault and was transported to the hospital to receive stitches for his injury. The other party refused medical attention. Charges are pending.

On May 26, officers were called to the 14000 block of Oakview Lane for a domestic assault report. An adult male was arrested for domestic assault. An adult female victim was transported to the hospital. A second male victim was not injured. Charges are pending.

Officers responded to three burglaries in May. Two of the three were vacant residences. There has been an increase in burglaries not only in Dayton, but also surrounding cities. Suspects not only remove valuable contents, but they are also removing copper piping and wires, anything that can be turned in for cash. Vacant homes have become a popular target for thieves. The department is communicating with neighboring agencies to help prevent any more burglaries. Officer McAlpine notifies neighborhood watch groups about any burglaries or suspicious activity in the area. The hope is having more eyes watching will deter the suspects from burglarizing homes in Dayton.
