Osseo High will be represented by a group of talented sprinters at this weekend’s state meet at Hamline University.
The Orioles won four section titles last week to advance to state. Junior Phyllis Webb captured the section 100-meter title in 12.05 and senior Anuli Okonkwo defended her section title in the 200-meter dash in 25.00. Webb and Okonkwo teamed up with Brieanna Puckett and Morgan Bialke to win the 4×200 and 4×400 relays.
The four Orioles will compete at the state meet at Hamline University Friday, June 8 and Saturday, June 9.
For the boys, the top finishes were a second-place showing by Leo Wiagbe in the 400 meter run and a fourth-place effort by the 4×400 relay team of Fawaz Oba, Jahari Stephens, Gus Wiagbe, and Leo Wiagbe.
Osseo had some excellent performances at the Northwest Suburban Conference Championships May 24. The girls’ team placed second in the conference.
Earning all-conference status was Webb, who won the 100 meter, was on two winning relay teams as well as placing fourth in the high jump. Okonkwo won the 200-meter dash and was on the winning 4×400 and 4×200 relays. Puckett won the long jump and was third in the 200. Bialke was all-conference on the relays. Colleen Seba placed thirrd in the shot and fifth in the disc to score big points for Osseo. Jenna Thompson was honorable mention in the 800.
On the boys’ side, Gus Wiagbe in the 300 hurdles and Nick Dalton in the pole vault were named honorable mention for the conference.
