Arriving at school in style; Grand prize Maple Grove fire poster contest winner gets fire truck ride

The Maple Grove Fire Department gave the 2011 Grand Prize Fire Prevention Poster Contest winner Katie Olson a ride to school May 25.

Katie Olson, a student at Rush Creek Elementary, along with her brother Erin, her grandpa and her uncle, all got to ride to school on fire truck Tower 41.

Her mom was at school filming the arrival. All of Katie’s classmates and her teacher were waiting outside in front of school when the fire truck arrived.

Each October the Maple Grove Fire Rescue Department invites all fourth graders to participate in a fire safety poster contest. The contest is sponsored by the participating fire departments of the North Suburban Regional Mutual Aid Association. A grand prize winner is chosen ever year and receives a traveling trophy along with the ride to school on a fire truck.

Katie also won the regional contest.
