(May 21) The Royals fell 4-3 to Champlin Park in the opening game of the Section 5AAA tournament played at Rice Creek Park in Shoreview.
"We played a solid defensive game and got out of some jams early," said Rogers coach Dan Ohlgren. "We spotted them three runs in the first and had to battle back most of the game before getting two runs to tie it in the sixth inning."
As a result of the loss, the Royals closed the 2012 season with 11-10 overall record, which included going 6-6 in Mississippi 8 play.
Leading Rogers at the plate against the Rebels, senior infielder Jo Baker hit an RBI triple, while senior pitcher Christina Hajder and junior catcher Megan sharp each added RBI singles. Eighth-grader Katelyn Kemmetmueller also doubled and senior outfielder Leah Perreault singled.
From the rubber, Hajder took the loss, allowing three earned runs off nine hits and four walks with three strikeouts over nine and 1/3 innings.
"All in all, we had a good season and beat a lot of teams that we hadn’t beaten in a while," Ohlgren said.
